‘Fought against the British, the leaders went to jail, by making false cases …’, what did PM Modi say about RSS?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised RSS on Wednesday (October 01, 2025) on the centenary occasion of the establishment of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and said that despite the restrictions and conspiracies, the organization never showed bitterness as it continued to work on the principle of ‘nation first’.

While attending the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Modi highlighted the contribution of the Sangh in nation building and said that the Sangh has reached every corner of the country with the goal of promoting harmony by removing discrimination of caste or creed and spreading the message of an inclusive society.

Attempt to crush RSS by registering false cases

Modi said, ‘The Sangh has fought against the atrocities of the British. His only interest has always been a love for the nation. He said that the volunteers of the Sangh gave shelter to the freedom fighters and during the freedom struggle, its leaders also went to jail. Many attempts have been made to crush the spirit of RSS by making allegations and registering false cases.

Giving a clear reference to the ban on RSS after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, he said, ‘RSS never showed bitterness against them in false cases, banning and other challenges, because we are part of a society where we accept both good and bad. It has been his mantra that which is good, which is less good, all is ours.

RSS’s democracy and unwavering belief in constitutional institutions

Modi said that the then RSS chief Madhav Golwalkar was also sent to jail in a false case. The Prime Minister said, ‘Still when he came out, he said with a calm heart that sometimes the tongue gets buried under the teeth, crushs, but we do not break the teeth because the teeth are also ours, the tongue is also ours.’

He said that every ‘volunteer’ has unwavering belief in democracy and constitutional institutions, which gave them the power to face challenges. When an emergency was imposed, this belief gave every volunteer the power to face him.

Special postage stamp and monument coin released

The Prime Minister also issued a special postage stamp and a memorial coin to mark 100 years of the establishment of the RSS. He said, ‘There is a national symbol on one side on the coin of 100 rupees, on the other side there is the image of Bharat Mata sitting on the lion, while volunteers are seen bowing in front of them with devotion and dedication.’

He said, ‘For the first time in the history of independent India, the image of Mother India has been mentioned on Indian currency, which is a moment of extreme pride and historical importance. The establishment of RSS on the day of Vijayadashami 100 years ago was not just a coincidence, but it was a revival of a tradition that has been going on for thousands of years.

RSS-Modi stands firmly even after challenges

He said, ‘The Sangh has been synonymous with patriotism and service since its inception. RSS believes in ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat’, although efforts were made to prevent it from joining the national mainstream after independence. Unity in diversity has always been the soul of India. If this principle is broken then India will become weak.

The PM said, “Despite the challenges, the RSS stands firmly and is tirelessly serving the nation.” The centenary celebrations were organized by the Ministry of Culture and it included RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosbale, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

PM Modi skilled organizers before joining BJP

The RSS established in Nagpur in 1925 on behalf of Keshav Baliram Hedgewar was established as a voluntary organization, which aims to promote cultural awareness, discipline, service and social responsibility among the citizens. Modi himself was a RSS pracharak and had made his mark as a skilled organizer before coming to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP’s ideological inspiration comes from the Hindutva organization.
