Following reports of irregularities, match cancellations and non-payment of payments in the private T20 cricket league Indian Heaven Premier League (IHPL) in Srinagar, the police have registered a case and started investigation. A top police officer said that an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and the investigation is underway. Let us tell you that the organization of this league started on October 25 at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar. The names of many big players like Chris Gayle and Praveen Kumar were included in this.
Players and service providers associated with the league alleged that they did not receive promised payments and were refused entry to the stadium due to “technical difficulties”. Some people also claimed that they were asked to vacate the hotel rooms.
Officials said, “We have received several complaints and have started investigation based on the complaints. But, it is too early to say anything as this was not an official league, but a privately organized league.”
The IHPL included many local and international cricketers, but it was neither recognized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) nor the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), raising questions about its validity.
Chris Gayle played 3 matches
The names of many big players were associated with this league, in which the names of former West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle and former Indian fast bowler Praveen Kumar were big. Thisara Perera of Sri Lanka, Richard Levi of South Africa and Shoaib Muhammad of Pakistan origin were also included in this league for a short time.
Chris Gayle played 3 matches in this, Perera played only one match. However, it cannot be said whether the organizers have also run away with Chris Gayle’s money or his payment had already been made.
