The Ministry of External Affairs said that during the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Keir Starmer on Thursday (October 9, 2025), issues like Khalistan were also discussed. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that PM Modi told Starmer that fundamentalism and violent extremism have no place in democratic societies. PM Modi said, “The freedom enjoyed by the society should not be allowed to be misused or misused.”
Britain should take action against Khalistani extremists
The Foreign Secretary said, “The issue of Khalistani extremism was discussed in the meeting between PM Modi and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. PM Modi emphasized that there is a need to take action against them under the legal framework available in both the countries.” India has often been raising the issue of Khalistanis with Britain. For the past few days, India has also expressed concern about the activities of Khalistan extremists in Britain.
Khalistani active in UK
Khalistanis had demonstrated in front of the Indian Embassy in London in March 2023. During this, Khalistanis had clearly insulted the tricolor. Then the Foreign Ministry of India had also summoned the Deputy High Commissioner of Britain. In March 2025, Khalistan supporters protested in front of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s vehicle in London, which is being considered as the biggest security lapse. The incident occurred when Jaishankar was leaving Chatham House after concluding a dialogue session.
India and Britain are natural partners: PM Modi
PM Modi said on Thursday (9 October 2025), “India and Britain are natural partners. The growing relations between the two countries are important pillars of global stability and economic progress at a time when the world is facing a period of uncertainty.” Following the PM Modi-Keir Starmer talks, both sides announced plans to supply light multi-role missile systems to the Indian Army to enhance its air defense capabilities.
