Till now, gallstones were considered a disease which usually occurs in adults. But in recent years, doctors and experts have revealed a shocking thing that now this disease is increasing rapidly in small children, even 5-6 years old. It is being seen in hospitals and clinics across the country that the number of children suffering from gallstones is continuously increasing. Earlier this situation was considered very bad, but now it has become a matter of new concern. So let us tell you today what gallstones are, why they are occurring in children, what are its symptoms, and how they can be avoided.

What are gallstones?
Gallstones are small solid pieces that form in the gallbladder inside the body. Gallbladder is a small sac which is inside the stomach and helps in digestion, stones can be formed from two things, first cholesterol and second bilirubin, if the stone becomes big or stops the flow of bile, then problems like severe pain in the stomach, vomiting, nausea and gas can occur.

Causes of increasing gallstones in children
Nowadays children spend more time on mobile, TV and video games instead of playing outside. Due to this, their physical activity has reduced, due to which obesity and the possibility of gallstones are also increasing. Apart from this, the increasing trend of unhealthy eating habits like junk food, fast food, cold drinks, fried and processed food is spoiling the health of children. At the same time, the main reason for the increasing incidence of gallstones in children is that if someone in the family has already had gallstones, then the chances of it occurring in children also increases. Children with blood diseases like thalassemia are also prone to gallstones.

What are the symptoms of gallstones?
Symptoms of gallstones in children are often not clearly visible. This is the reason why parents ignore it considering it to be a minor stomach ache. In such a situation, some of its common symptoms may be frequent stomach pain, especially in the upper part, feeling of vomiting or nausea, aversion to eating, gas or flatulence and sometimes high fever or jaundice. If a child repeatedly complains of stomach ache, then it should not be ignored and should be seen by a doctor.

How to protect?
Experts say that this disease can be prevented in childhood, if right lifestyle and eating habits are adopted. Children should be given green vegetables, fruits, pulses and fiber rich food. Junk food, cold drinks, chocolate and outside food should be given to a minimum. Encourage children to play, limit the time spent on TV, mobile, tablet, if anyone in the family has had stones or metabolic disease, then keep getting the children checked from time to time.
