The Indian cricket team is ready for a difficult series of 5 Test matches against England. In this series, Team India Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and R.K. Will play without Ashwin. In such a situation, newly appointed captain Shubman Gill and coach Gautam Gambhir will have to face challenges in the bowling department along with batting.
It will be a challenge for Team India to decide who should be given a chance as a batsman in place of Rohit Sharma. Whether Abhimanyu Ishwaran gets an opener and Karun Nair will get a chance in the middle order, it is a big question. Jasprit Bumrah will probably not play five Tests under the Workload Management. However, after Gautam Gambhir’s statement, Jaspreet Bumrah and Karun Nair have got clarity.
Head coach Gambhir said in a press conference on Thursday, “It is not yet decided which four matches Bumrah will play, but Karun Nair has a good chance to make a place in the playing XI. He has recently performed well for domestic cricket and India A.”
In a press conference before leaving for England at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, Gambhir said, “I think we have chosen enough bowlers. Our bowlers are capable of winning the match from any situation.”
Gambhir said, “It is always difficult to replace Bumrah, but as I said in the Champions Trophy, it is a chance to prove myself. The players who do well in domestic cricket and in form will get opportunities.”
On Karun Nair, Gautam Gambhir said, “He has played domestic cricket and is in good form. He also scored a double century against England Lions for ‘India A’. His experience will work in the series. We will not assess any player on the basis of performance in one or two matches.”
After this statement of Gambhir, Karun Nair is getting indications of getting enough opportunity in the England Test series.
Asked about Shreyas Iyer, Gambhir said, “It is the job of the selector to choose the team and the chief selector has answered this question. My eyes are always on the players who are in form.” Let us know that the five -Test series between India and England is starting from June 20.
