After the arrest of Climate activist and innovator Sonam Wangchuk recently, his wife Geetanjali J Angmo is also in discussion. The life of Gitanjali, active in the field of social service and education as co-founder and CEO of Himalayan Institute of Alternatives (Hial), has been inspiring and multi-faceted.

Gitanjali was born in a Punjabi Jain family in Balasore district of Odisha. She was fast in studies since childhood. He obtained a degree in Physics (B.Sc.) from Fakir Mohan University, Balasore. He then did his MBA from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB). His educational journey not only gave him academic knowledge but also taught the qualities of leadership and management.

After making a career in the corporate world, Gitanjali realized that his real purpose is to contribute to the field of social service and innovation. He worked in various institutions and companies in Denmark for nearly 15 years and during this time gained significant experience in the field of social service and innovation.

Education and innovation contribution in Ladakh
He met Sonam Wangchuk in Ladakh. The two together established Hial. Through this institution, he promoted education, social reform and innovation. The purpose of Gitanjali is not only to teach children, but also to make them responsible, aware and innovative citizens.

Physical and mental efficiency
Gitanjali is not limited to studies and social service only. He has received a black belt in Karate and also trained in Russian ballet. This shows that both physical and mental balance are important in his life.

Research and scholarship
Gitanjali has also done his PhD, carrying forward his academic journey. Her studies were not limited to the degree only, but she teaches Vedanta and Geeta in the light of Sri Aurobindo. This knowledge of his has given him a deep understanding in the field of society and education.

International experience and honor
Geetanjali has been a shearing fellow at the University of Oxford. In the year 2022, he was awarded the ‘Woman Transforming India’ National Award by the Government of India. This award is a recognition letter of his contribution in the field of social service and education.
