Giriraj Singh compared Umar Khalid-Sharjeel Imam with terrorist Kasab, said- ‘The work that…’

Political rhetoric has intensified after the Supreme Court rejected the bail plea of Omar Khalid in the UAPA case related to Delhi riots. Union Minister Giriraj Singh gave a sharp reaction and compared Omar Khalid with terrorist Kasab and said that whatever Kasab did, Omar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam are doing the same thing.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision and said, “What Kasab did, Umar Khalid is doing the same thing. People like Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam are doing the same things and activities that Pakistan does. Creating an atmosphere against the country is also a kind of terrorist act. Such people should be given harsher punishment than Kasab.”

Know what the Supreme Court said in its decision?

The Supreme Court said in its decision that in strict laws like UAPA, the rules of bail are different from normal cases. Citing Section 43D(5), the court said that while considering bail, it is seen whether the material of the prosecution makes out a prima facie offense or not.

The court also made it clear that ‘terrorist acts’ are not limited to violence only. Rather, a conspiracy to harm the country’s system, essential services and economy also comes under its purview.

Khalid was accused of inflammatory speech in Delhi riots

Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam are accused of giving inflammatory speeches, conspiring and playing a role in spreading violence during the 2020 Delhi riots. Investigating agencies claim that these activities posed a threat to the unity and security of the country. In this case, other five accused have got bail from the Supreme Court, but Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam did not get relief.

Other BJP leaders also expressed satisfaction over the decision and said that the law should be strictly implemented in matters related to the country’s security. The Supreme Court also said that delay in trial is a serious issue, but while deciding on bail, the court has to take the decision only within the ambit of law.
