Phillips was playing for Otago and the match was against Central Districts, suddenly in the 19th over, Phillips played such a shot that everyone was stunned. Phillips changed from a right-handed stance to a left-handed stance; the bowler threw the ball towards the off stump to escape. But even here the bowler was not saved and Phillips hit a cover drive in cover lefty style and scored a four.

Talking about his shots after the match, Glenn Phillips said, ‘I had practiced it for some time in net practice, but never came out openly. It is very interesting to play such shots in professional cricket. Last day in net practice, I was hitting better shots playing with my left hand than playing with my right hand. So when there was nothing left to lose, it seemed right to at least decide to give it a try.
