Global Muslim Population: The study of Pew Research has estimated that the global Muslim population will increase by 70 per cent and by 2060 it will cross the 3 billion mark. This study has been done by the Pew Research Center, which states that Islam has become the fastest growing religion in the world. The possibility of its expansion in future is quite high.
A significant increase in Muslim population will be seen in countries like Canada and America. The population of Muslims in Canada will be three times in the next five years, while the number of Muslim children in America will also increase rapidly.
Rapid growth in Muslim population in Canada and America
According to the Pew Research Center, the Muslim population in Canada will increase from 940,000 of 2010 to 2.7 million by 2030, which will be 6.6 percent of the total population. The main reasons behind this growth include migration, high birth rate and young Muslim population. Thus, there will be a rapid increase in Muslim population in America. In 2010, there were about 200,000 Muslim children aged 0-4, whose number is expected to exceed 650,000 by 2030. This reflects the growing trend of Muslim population in America.
Due to increase in Muslim population globally
According to the study, there are three major reasons behind the expansion of Islam:
Youth Population: The Muslim population is much younger than other religious groups, which is more likely to expand.
High fertility rate: The fertility rate of Muslims is higher than other religions, due to which their number is increasing rapidly.
Religion change: The practice of conversion in Islam in some areas is also a reason for the increase in Muslim population.
Hindu -dominatedness in India intact, but global stake will decrease
The study said that India and Nepal will continue to be Hindu -dominated nations in future also. In 2010, Hindus had 80 per cent stake in India’s population, and by 2050 it will be reduced to 77 per cent. Despite this, India will remain the main center of Hinduism. By 2050, India’s population will be 18 per cent of the world’s total population, which will hold the global share of Hinduism 15 per cent. In the next 25 years, the global Hindu population will increase from 1 billion to 1.4 billion, which is equal to the global trend.
