Billionaire Philanthropist Bill Gates said that Mahatma Gandhi’s equality and dignity is the foundation for the works of the Foundation. He also emphasized that India has developed many such initiatives and solutions, which can save the lives of millions of people in ‘Global South’ and improve their lives.
The term ‘Global South’ is commonly used to refer to economically less developed countries. Gates was addressing a special ceremony organized by India’s Consul General and Gates Foundation at Seattle. The program was organized to showcase Indian culture, art and food on the occasion of the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Bill Gates said, ‘It is suitable that we have gathered on Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday. He advocated ideals like equality and dignity of every person, which is the foundation of our work. Gates, co-founder of Microsoft and Chairman of Gates Foundation and Board Member Gates said, “Today India stands as a global leader in innovation and is developing solutions that have the ability to save millions of Global South’s lives and improve life. We hope to continue partnership in India’s developed India 2047 visit.
Apart from Gates, senior officials of Washington and Seattle also attended the event. Apart from this, many programs were also organized in Washington and Seattle. In New York, India’s Consul General Binay Pradhan visited the Gandhi Peace Garden at Sunny Old Westbury College and interacted with the university community.
India’s consulate in New York said in a post on social media plateoporm X, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated this garden on 24 September 2019. It has 150 trees representing all 50 states of America, which symbolizes Gandhiji’s eternal message-peace, harmony and respect for nature. The Indian Embassy in Washington paid tribute to the Indian migrant community, students, professionals and friends of India on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and performed various programs.
