Glowing Animals At Night: Not only fireflies, these animals also glow at night, know their names

Glow worms are one of the best-known bioluminescent organisms after fireflies. They are found in forests and caves and are the larvae or wingless females of the firefly species. In fact, they shine to attract insects towards their sticky silky threads, which they use to trap their prey.

Many jellyfish species glow in blue or green light in the deep sea. Actually they glow because of chemically reacting proteins. This light helps the jellyfish confuse predators and attract small prey.

Anglerfish, which live thousands of meters below the sea surface, use their bright light to survive in the dark. A fleshy growth emerges from their head called the illicium. It keeps shining from the front and whenever a small fish comes near to examine it, this fish attacks it.

With over 1,500 species, lanternfish are one of the most common bioluminescent forms of life in the ocean. There are small light producing organs on their body which are called photophores.

The most attractive fish among these is the flashlight. Just below the eyes of these small fish, there are glowing bacteria. They can turn off these organs and turn off the light. Due to which they give signals to each other or confuse the prey in dark water.

The firefly squid, found in the waters off Japan, produces a bright blue light from tiny photophores located throughout its body. During the breeding call, millions of these squids gather near the surface, creating a very beautiful natural sight.
