Gold Import from Dubai will not be easy now you will have to contact the agencies having permit under Cepa

Gold Import Dubai: Bringing gold from Dubai now will not be as easy as before because the government has tightened the rules on gold imports. The Government of India has taken a big step and banned the import of gold-silver coming in the form of raw or half and powder.

Now according to the new rule, only agencies or jewelers with permits will be able to import it under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India-UAE. After the decision taken in the budget of FY 2026, the government announced this.

This was mentioned in the budget

Explain that in the budget, the government mentioned the change of HS (Harmonized System) code. The HS code is a number, which shows which ripper is being imported and which goods are being exported. In the budget, the government had said to offer HS code or tariff code for things with gold cords, silver cords or more than 99 percent.

Why was this decision taken?

The government took this decision because some people bring 99 percent pure gold from Dubai and pay less tax by putting a platinum alloy label on it. These people take advantage of low charge under the CEPA agreement between India-UAE. To prevent this, the government introduced a separate HS code for platinum. This will not allow gold to be imported as platinum, while the import of platinum will be banned under any mixture except 99 percent or more pure platinum.

Let us know that under the Indo-UAE CEPA agreement, India is allowed to import UAE with a 200 metric tonnes of gold annually with 1 percent concession. However, it is necessary to be a TRQ (tariff rate quota) license. This helps in keeping tax evasion under transparency in gold imports.
