Within 72 hours, the police caught the gang that carried out an incident like the film Special 26 in Delhi’s Karol Bagh. This gang, which looted more than one kilo of gold by posing as fake police and fake income tax and ED officers, was exposed after swift and precise action by Delhi Police. Police arrested 5 accused and recovered 435.03 grams of gold, Rs 3.97 lakh in cash and 3 vehicles used in the crime from their possession.
Raid in fake uniform, fake ID and film style
On 27 November 2025, 5 people entered a jewelery workshop located in Karol Bagh wearing fake Delhi Police uniforms and 4 people posing as Income Tax/ED officers. As soon as they went inside, they confiscated the mobile phones of the employees and started a fake raid, pretending to be a government team.
Within a few minutes the accused left with about one kilogram of gold. To hide the incident, they also removed the CCTV DVR of the workshop so that no footage could be obtained.
Large scale investigation by Delhi Police
As soon as the complaint was received, the police considered the case as high-profile and formed several teams. The footage of more than 250 CCTV cameras installed nearby was scrutinized. The police chase was so close that the accused could not even guess.
Based on continuous surveillance and technical clues, the police conducted an interstate operation for 1200 kilometers and conducted raids in Bahadurgarh, Rohtak, Hisar, Hansi and Delhi of Haryana and arrested five gang members.
The crime was committed after watching the film ‘Special 26’
During interrogation it was revealed that this entire incident was inspired by the film Special 26. The arrested accused include an employee working in a government department and a person who claims to be OSD in the Public Relations Department of Madhya Pradesh Government.
The gang first made a plan after watching the film, then prepared fake Delhi Police IDs, lanyards, uniforms and vehicles that looked like government vehicles. After looting the gold, the accused also divided it among themselves, a major part of which was sold. Delhi Police is now engaged in recovery of that gold.
The whole gang broke due to one mistake
Even though the accused took out the DVR, a small part of their car was recorded in a camera installed on the road. It was from here that the police got the first major clue. By zooming and enhancing the footage, the police reached the vehicle, then the number and location tracking led them to the accused.
Three still absconding, search continues
Delhi Police says that three members of the gang are still absconding. He has been identified and will soon be arrested. Police claim that the remaining gold and looted money will also be recovered soon.
This film style robbery of Karol Bagh may have been done with utmost planning, but a small mistake exposed the secret of the entire gang. The prompt action of Delhi Police proved that the real police is always one step ahead of the fake police.
