Indian nurse Nimisha Priya, who is facing a death sentence in Yemen, has got a big relief at the moment. Following the continuous efforts of the Government of India, Yemeni officials have decided to make a temporary ban on their hanging.

Now Nimisha’s lawyers and family have been given a chance to talk to the family of the killed Yemeni citizen Talal Abdo Mehdi and try to reach the ‘blood money’ i.e. compensation agreement. If the victim’s family is ready for this agreement, then Nimisha’s death sentence can be forgiven.

1. Who is Nimisha Priya?

38 -year -old Nimisha Priya, who hails from Palakkad district of Kerala, went to Yemen in 2008 to work under a nursing profession. There he started a clinic in 2015 with a Yemeni citizen Talal Abdo Mahdi.

2. What are the allegations against Nimisha Priya

Nimisha alleges that Mahdi seized her passport after the clinic started, tortured her physically and mentally and also captured the clinic’s earnings.

3. How did Mahdi die?

It is said that in 2017, Nimisha injected Mahdi to make Mahdi unconscious while trying to withdraw her passport in 2017. But Mahdi died due to injection overdose. In this case, the court of Yemen sentenced Nimisha to death.

4. When was Nimisha sentenced to death?

After the incident, Nimisha Priya along with her colleague Hanan cut the body of the deceased Talal Abdo Mahdi and hid her in a water tank. After this case came to light, the Yemen court sentenced Nimisha to death in 2018.

5. President also approved after Supreme Court

In 2023, the Supreme Court of Yemen also upheld the decision of the lower court. Recently, Yemen’s President Rashad Al-Ali has also approved this sentence.
