Google to invest in visakhapatnam: India is fast moving towards the digital world, and now a historic step has been taken in this direction. It has been announced by Google that it will set up its largest data center after America in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, India. This initiative can prove to be a major “turning point” towards India’s digitalization.
Google’s investment of $ 10 billion
According to the official release issued by the Andhra Pradesh government, Google will invest about US $ 10 billion (about Rs 88,730 crore) for the construction of a gigawat capacity data center. This investment will take data security, cloud services and AI infrastructure to a new height in India.
Chief Minister N. A total of 30 investment proposals of Rs 1.14 lakh crore were approved in the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) meeting chaired by Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday. These proposals include projects related to IT, fuel, tourism, space, food processing and other areas. These investments are expected to create about 67,000 new jobs in the state.
India’s biggest foreign investment ever
According to the release, an investment proposal of Rs 87,520 crore of Raiden Infotech Data Center is being considered as the largest foreign direct investment (FDI) ever in the history of the country.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said- “For the last 15 months, efforts made to attract investors are now bringing color. New-scale employment generation and economic development are opening in the state.” During the meeting, the government also decided that a special officer would be appointed for every major project, who will take over the responsibility of landing the project on the ground.
Investment and employment data so far
In the 11 meetings of SIPB so far, investment proposals worth more than Rs 7 lakh crore have been approved in total. About 6.2 lakh jobs are expected to be created from these projects. This huge investment of Google will prove to be a milestone for India’s digital ecosystem. This hypersscale data center, built in Visakhapatnam, will play an important role in establishing India as a global digital infrastructure hub. This is not just a data center, but is going to prove to be the backbone of India’s digital future.
