Gorakhpur MP and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Kishan seriously raised the problems of small and traditional traders in the Lok Sabha on Friday (March 13, 2026). Making special mention under Section 370, he said that due to rapidly growing online business, small shopkeepers and traditional traders are facing tough competition.
The MP said that big online platforms are trying to capture the market through heavy discounts and aggressive marketing, which is affecting the income of small traders. Many shopkeepers are having to close their businesses. He also said that there is lack of adequate social security system for small traders and their families, which is a matter of serious concern.
Ravi Kishan placed three major demands before the government in the House
- Clear and strict rules for online trading, so that excessive discounting and monopolization of the market by big platforms can be prevented.
- Protection of interests of small and traditional traders. Such policies should be made by the government, so that local shopkeepers and small traders can get protection and equal opportunities.
- Social security system for traders. So that schemes like medical insurance and accident insurance should be ensured for small traders and their families.
Expressed concern over the situation of traders
The MP said that lakhs of small businessmen of the country are facing financial pressure today. Many families become burdened with debt in case of illness or accident because they do not have any kind of health or accident insurance available. He said that small traders are the backbone of the country’s economy and it would not be appropriate to ignore them. The government should take concrete steps in this direction soon.
Appeal for immediate action from the government
MP Ravi Kishan appealed to the Central Government to immediately consider this issue and make clear policies and rules, so that balanced and healthy competition can be maintained in the market and small traders can get economic and social security. He said that this issue is not only related to businessmen but also to the economic structure and social justice of the country.
