The government is planning a big sports project in the capital Delhi. In fact, sources associated with the Sports Ministry said on Monday (November 10) that the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the national capital will be demolished and a ‘Sports City’ will be built. Apart from all the major sports, there will also be accommodation facilities for the players.
The 102-acre area of the stadium will be completely renovated, but as of now the plan is only a proposal and hence the timeline of the project has not been decided yet. Sports cities of Qatar and Australia are being evaluated to finalize its outline.
The stadium will be demolished
The ministry source said that the stadium will be demolished. All offices located inside the stadium, including the National Anti-Doping Agency and the National Dope Testing Laboratory, will be shifted.
There will be facilities for these sports
The Sports City primarily houses a multi-sport facility with world-class infrastructure for conducting training and major events. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Complex of Ahmedabad is an example of this, where facilities are available for cricket, swimming, tennis and athletics etc.
