Stage 1 of GRAP has been implemented in Delhi-NCR even before Diwali. This decision had to be taken due to the pollution level being in the poor category. There will be restrictions in the first phase in Delhi-NCR. Under this, there will be a ban on burning wood and garbage. Precaution will have to be taken at construction sites. According to CAQM, today (October 14) Delhi’s pollution level was 211 and in the poor category. It is estimated that the pollution level will remain in the poor category in the coming days. AQI level in Delhi crossed 200.

Will anything change after GRP 1 is implemented?

  • Dust control measures like use of anti smog guns will be started in Delhi NCR under Grape 1
  • Dust control measures will have to be followed at all construction and demolition sites.
  • For projects larger than 500 square meters, it will also be necessary to follow the approved dust management plan.
  • Open burning of garbage, leaves and other waste materials will be prohibited.
  • Use of coal or wood fuel in roadside food stalls and commercial kitchens will be prohibited.
  • Hotels, restaurants and open eating places will use only electricity, gas or other clean fuels.
  • The use of diesel generators has been limited. Diesel generators will be allowed only in necessary or emergency situations.
  • Vehicles that cause pollution can be fined or confiscated.
  • Under traffic control, traffic police have been deployed at major intersections and drivers will be instructed to switch off their engines at red lights.
  • Diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years will be banned in Delhi NCR.

The air quality index (AQI) in the national capital was recorded at 201 on Tuesday morning, which falls in the poor category. According to IMD, the minimum temperature was recorded at 19 degrees Celsius, which is 0.6 degrees Celsius below normal. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 33 degrees Celsius.
