Many big countries of Europe have issued a joint statement regarding Greenland and given a clear message to US President Donald Trump. French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Merz, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni and the leaders of Poland, Spain, Britain and Denmark jointly said that Greenland is not the subject of any kind of deal or pressure and decisions related to it will be taken only by the people of Denmark and Greenland.
The European countries made it clear in their statement that the Arctic region is very sensitive in terms of European and international security and that is why a collective strategy is being adopted regarding security in this area.
Security of Arctic will be ensured by working with NATO – Europe
European countries said that the security of the Arctic will be ensured together with NATO. It was also bluntly said in the statement that a country’s borders, its land and its sovereignty are unbreakable. Citing the United Nations Charter, Europe said that borders cannot be changed and no country’s land can be claimed.
Europe also made it clear that America is definitely an important partner of NATO, but America does not have the right to take decisions on Greenland. Denmark and Greenland will take the final decision in matters related to Greenland.
Europe warned America
Although no leader was named in the statement, it is being seen in the background of the old statements of US President Donald Trump. It is believed that Europe has explained to America without naming it that Greenland is not a real estate deal.
Overall, Europe has clearly expressed to America that Greenland’s land, its borders and its future are non-negotiable and no external interference on this issue will be accepted.
