In today’s time, people are increasingly moving towards growing vegetables on their house’s terrace, balcony or small garden. Home grown vegetables are not only fresh but also do not contain any harmful chemicals. One such nutritious and easily grown vegetable is beetroot. Beetroot is considered very beneficial for health. It helps in increasing blood in the body, removing weakness and giving strength to the body. The good thing is that it is very easy to grow it at home.
If you have a little space, a pot and good soil, you can easily grow beetroot. There is no need for any special experience for this. It is important to keep just a few simple things in mind.
First of all choose the right pot. The root of beetroot grows inside the soil, so the pot should be a little deep. A pot with a depth of about 10 to 12 inches is suitable for this. If you do not have a pot, you can also use a plastic bucket or any big box, but it must have a hole at the bottom for water to drain out.
What kind of soil would be good?
Now comes the matter of soil. Beetroot likes light and fertile soil. For this, you can add some cowdung or compost to the garden soil. Due to this the plant gets the necessary nutrition and it grows quickly. Mix the soil well before filling it in the pot so that there are no lumps in it.
After this the beetroot seeds are sown. The seeds should be sown in the soil at about half to one inch depth. Do not put too many seeds in one pot, otherwise the plants will not have room to grow. After sowing the seeds, cover them with light soil and pour some water on top.
It is very important to maintain balance in watering also. The beetroot plant neither needs too much water nor should the soil be allowed to dry completely. Try to keep the soil slightly moist. During summer, a little water can be given every day, whereas in winter, watering at an interval of two days is sufficient.
need good sunlight
Beetroot plant needs good sunlight. Therefore, keep the pot in a place where it gets sunlight for at least 5 to 6 hours a day. By getting sunlight, the plant becomes stronger and the roots grow well.
These tasks are very important
Small plants start appearing within about 7 to 10 days after sowing the seeds. When the plants grow a little and too many plants appear in one pot, some of them should be removed. This provides enough space for the rest of the plants to grow.
It is also necessary to take care of plants from time to time. If the soil becomes too hard then loosen it a little. This provides air to the roots and the plant grows well. You can also add some organic fertilizer once a month.
Generally, beetroot is ready within 50 to 60 days of sowing the seeds. When a little red part starts appearing above the soil, understand that the beetroot is ready. Now you can carefully remove it from the soil.
