78 years have passed since the country got independence, but hundreds of Sindhi families living in the Pakistani locality of Ramnagar in Rander area of Surat district of Gujarat state have now got their true identity. Now this area will be officially known as ‘Hindustani Mohalla’.
This historic change has been possible with the untiring efforts of Purnesh Modi, MLA from Surat West and former cabinet minister of Gujarat government. On this occasion, a new board named Hindustani Mohalla was unveiled, which ran a wave of happiness and pride among the local residents.

Purnesh Modi said that efforts were being made to change the name of this area for the last 10 years. In the year 2018, a proposal for name change was passed, but now it has come into force. He said that this is a proud moment for us.
He said that now the residents of this locality will be able to say proudly that they live in Hindustani locality. In the coming days, special camps will be organized in the documents of the residents to change the old name to Hindustani Mohalla.
Enthusiasm among local people
Local residents are excited about this change. Sudama Lal Bholani said, “Earlier we used to hesitate to mention our address, but now we can proudly say that we are residents of Hindustani locality.” Pawan Hasija also expressed happiness and said, it is an honor for us. Our new identity makes us feel proud of the country.
Describing this change as historic, Sagar Patel said that this step will give a new energy to the community. This change is not only a name change, but is a step associated with the feelings and pride of hundreds of families, which gives them a new opportunity to be proud of their Indianness.
Bharat Jethwani said emotionally, we have been living here since the Partition. It was uncomfortable for us to be recognized by the name Pakistani Mohalla. Now our identity under the name Hindustani Mohalla has been associated with the country.
At the same time, Divya Patel said that this is a proud moment for us. We are now part of the Hindustani locality. Neetu Ganguly said, we have been living here for 20-22 years. We are Hindustani and now our mohalla also shows our identity.
