Let us tell you that ‘Haq’ is inspired by the life and legal struggle of Shah Bano Begum, after whose historic case in 1985, the Supreme Court gave the right of maintenance to divorced Muslim women. Madhya Pradesh High Court had rejected the petition filed by Shah Bano Begum’s daughter seeking a stay on the release of the film.
The film revolves around Shazia (Yami Gautam Dhar), a domestic, uneducated woman who marries a successful lawyer Abbas Khan (Emraan Hashmi). One day suddenly Abbas brings another wife into the house. Shortly afterwards, he breaks his marriage with Shazia by giving her triple talaq. Shazia’s legal fight for her rights forms the rest of the film.
