Congress National General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala has held a big attack on Naib Singh Saini government of Haryana on Sunday (July 20) in a press conference in Chandigarh. He said that Haryana has drowned in the swamp of crime and has become a situation like ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’.
Surjewala alleged that Saini has completely failed as Chief Minister and Home Minister and the government has succumbed to the mafia. Demanding the resignation from Saini, he said that if the government cannot protect the law and the constitution, then it has no right to stay in power.
3 murder every day, 45 people missing- Surjewala
Surjewala said that where earlier there were reports of players’ victory and investment in the newspapers of Haryana, now only paper leaks, corruption, lathicharge on farmers and drugs are seen. According to PTI, he said that dozens of gangs like Lawrence Bishnoi, Bambiha, Bhau, Kaushal Chaudhary, Goldie Brar, Vikas Gulia are active in Haryana.
He said that in the beginning of 2025, the government itself admitted that 80 gangs are active in the state. According to the NCRB, in 2024, 966 murders took place in the state, an average of 3 murder, 45 missing and 46 crimes were registered every day. Between January and March 2025, 4137 people went missing, most of which are cases of kidnapping.
Government denied these allegations
At the same time, a spokesperson of the Haryana government dismissed these allegations outright and said that the claims of the opposition are factless and misleading. He said that many strict steps have been taken under the government’s ‘zero tolerance on crime’. Security of women, control over cyber crime and concrete action is being taken against drug and mafia.
The spokesperson also said that if the Congress leaders compared the 2005-14 figures to 2014-24, then they do not make such irresponsible statements. For example, the number of murder cases in 2014 was 1106 which declined to 966 in 2024.
The government said that between January 1 and June 30, 2025, a decrease in many major crimes has been recorded. Since 2023, 433 prize criminals, 248 gangsters and criminals involved in 792 serious cases have been arrested by the Special Task Force (STF).
Chief Minister Saini recently held a meeting with the police and district magistrates and directed strict action against the culprits. It was claimed by the government that the security of the people of the state is paramount and maintaining law and order is the primary responsibility of the government. No laxity will be tolerated.
