Rohit, a 28-year-old national para powerlifting player from village Humayunpur in district Rohtak, finally died at Pandit BD Sharma PGMS Rohtak after fighting the battle for death for two days. Powerlifter Rohit was fatally attacked by wedding guests after a wedding ceremony in Bhiwani, due to which he died due to serious injuries.
On the evening of 27 November, Rohit had gone to Bhiwani with his friend to attend a wedding ceremony of his relatives. During the wedding ceremony, Rohit had a fight with the wedding guests after objecting to their alleged indecent behaviour.

After the wedding ceremony was over, when Rohit and his friends were returning back to Rohtak, 15 to 20 wedding guests surrounded them on the way. According to Rohit’s friend, the accused brutally attacked Rohit with an iron rod and hockey stick. The friend somehow managed to escape from there to save his life.

In injured condition, Rohit was first admitted to Bhiwani General Hospital, but due to his condition being serious, he was referred to PGI Rohtak. Despite treatment that lasted for two days, Rohit could not be saved and he died in the hospital.
Rohit’s achievements
Rohit was a well-known para powerlifter of the country. His uncle Kaptan Singh told that Rohit has been a two-time junior para national record holder and seven-time senior para national champion. He also represented India in Para powerlifting at the international level.
Police statement and action
Bhiwani police investigating officer Devendra Kumar said that Rohit had gone to the wedding ceremony of his friend’s sister’s in-laws. There was an altercation regarding the indecent behavior of the wedding guests during the varmala. Due to this dispute, while returning, the wedding procession surrounded Rohit and his friend on the way and hit them.
The accused is said to be from Taghdana village of Baraat district Bhiwani. The police took immediate action in the case and detained about six people and also seized the vehicle used in the attack. Police say that investigation is going on in the case of the player’s death and strict action will be taken against whoever is found guilty.
