How to check cylinder expiry date?
The expiry date of the LPG cylinder is written on the iron strip made on its upper part. Many times you might have seen marks like A-28, B-29, C-26 or D-27 there. This is actually the identity of the validity of the cylinder. The alphabet written in it tells about the month and the number written next to it shows the year.
A means January to March, B means April to June, C means July to September and D means October to December. If D-27 is written on any cylinder. So this means that that cylinder will expire between October and December in the year 2027. If B-29 is written similarly, it will remain valid between April and June in 2029. By understanding this code, you can check the expiry of your cylinder yourself.
Why is expired cylinder dangerous?
Expired gas cylinder is not old only on paper. In fact, it may also be weak from security point of view. Over time, the metal of the cylinder weakens, the valves may malfunction and the capacity to withstand the pressure inside may reduce. The risk of gas leakage, fire or blast increases from such cylinders.
If the date written on the strip of your cylinder has expired, do not use it. Immediately contact your gas agency and get the cylinder replaced. Make it a habit to check the cylinder strip even at the time of delivery. This small check can keep your home and family safe.
