1. Ginger tea – Ginger is considered very beneficial in Ayurveda. It contains elements that reduce swelling and provide warmth to the body. Drinking ginger tea reduces throat irritation and provides relief from cough. If a little honey is added to it, its effect increases even more. Drinking ginger tea 1-2 times a day is beneficial in case of cold and cough.
2. Hot water steam – Taking steam is a very effective remedy for the problem of cold, cough and blocked nose. By taking steam of hot water, the mucus accumulated in the nose and throat becomes loose, which makes breathing easier. Taking steam for just 5 to 10 minutes also provides relief from headache and stiffness. If you want, you can also add a little celery or eucalyptus oil to the water.
3. Turmeric milk – Turmeric has been used as a medicine since ancient times. An element called curcumin present in turmeric helps in fighting bacteria and inflammation. Drinking half a teaspoon of turmeric mixed in a glass of lukewarm milk before sleeping at night provides relief from cough, sore throat and cold. It also strengthens the immune system.
4. Honey and hot water – Honey is considered very effective in getting relief from cough. Drinking one spoon of honey mixed in lukewarm water in the morning on an empty stomach or before sleeping at night reduces dryness and irritation in the throat. Honey forms a layer on the throat, due to which the cough gradually reduces.
5. Gargle with salt water – If there is pain, soreness in the throat or persistent cough, then gargling with lukewarm salt water is very beneficial. This reduces the bacteria present in the throat and also reduces swelling. Gargling twice a day provides great relief to the throat.
