What is new injection therapy

This therapy contains special types of chemical compounds, which catch some protein of the body. These are proteins that prevent the heart from recovering. When these proteins are removed from the path, the healing protein of the body is able to do its work easily, that is, to reduce swelling and stress and save the heart.

Trials on mice succeeded

Scientists first tested this therapy on the cell and then saw its effect on mice. Injecting the same low dose reduced inflammation in mice, the heart cells did not dedicate and the ability to work for the heart increased. Along with this, new blood vessels of the heart also started forming.

Hope to stop heart failure

Nathan Gianneschi, scientist of Northwestern and Karen Christman of UC San Diego lead the study. He says that there is still no sure cure to stop heart failure after a heart attack, but this new therapy is highly expected in that direction. He says that, ‘Even today, every year, a large number of heart attacks lose their lives. But we have very few treatments that can really change the risk of heart failure. This new therapy can help in catching those ‘inside targets’, which could not be cured with medicines till now.’

How does therapy works

When a heart attack comes, the muscles of the heart do not get oxygen and there is damage there. After this, swelling and scar tissue start forming, which weakens the heart. Scientists have targeted a protein called NRF2, which protects the heart from stress and inflammation, but the second protein named Kep1 blocks NRF2. The PLP (Protein Like Polymer) in this new therapy catches Keap1 so that NRF2 can do its work.

Just one injection and effect for weeks

Researchers say that once this PLP went into the body, it caught Keap1 and released NRF2. The result was that the heart cells started heeling themselves. Even after giving just one injection, its effect was seen for 5 weeks.

Cancer and brain diseases will also be used

This PLP technology is being brought to the market through a company named Grows Biopharma. The team of scientists wants to use it not only for heart diseases, but also in the treatment of cancer and neuro disease. If this happens, the risk of both dangerous diseases can be reduced to a great extent.
