What to do during heart attack: Heart disease still remains the biggest cause of death in the world. In the year 2022, about 2 crore people died due to heart related diseases, mostly due to heart attack and stroke. Even in a developed country like America, every year lakhs of people lose their lives due to heart disease. These figures show how common heart attacks are and why it is important to take timely action. Recently, Dr. Christabel Akinola shared a post on Instagram, in which she mentioned a person who recognized the symptoms of a heart attack and immediately took appropriate steps and saved his life. The doctor told what the person did that saved his life and why these steps were necessary.
What should be done in case of a sudden heart attack?
First of all call emergency services. If you are experiencing heart attack symptoms, call emergency services immediately and tell the dispatcher that you are in this situation. Place the phone on speaker so that both your hands are free and you can follow the guidance. Clearly mention your location, allergies and medication information. Do not try to drive yourself to the hospital, allow the ambulance to arrive so that treatment can be started immediately.
If you are conscious and not allergic to aspirin, chew one non-coated aspirin (about 300 mg). By chewing it, the medicine works quickly. Many studies have found that taking aspirin immediately after the initial symptoms of a heart attack reduces the risk of death by about 25 percent.
What did the expert say?
Dr. Akinola also warned on social media about Viral Cough CPR, taking a deep breath and coughing vigorously. He said that this technology can be useful in some cases only during medical monitoring, but using it alone at home can be dangerous. If you feel symptoms of a heart attack, do not experiment on yourself, rather seek help immediately. If you are feeling dizzy or weak, lie down and raise your legs slightly and place them on some support. This improves blood flow and can provide some relief, although it is not a cure but a temporary support.
Try to keep yourself calm during this time. Fear and nervousness increase heart rate and blood pressure, which can worsen the situation. Take deep breaths, sit or lie down, loosen your clothes and talk to someone, this will reduce the pressure on the heart. If you live alone at home, then make some preparations in advance. Always keep your phone close, close the door from inside so that people can reach quickly if needed, and keep a list of medicines and allergies nearby so that doctors can get the information.
