In view of the estimate of heavy rains from 21 to 23 July in some areas of 2 to 7 districts of Himachal Pradesh, the local meteorological center released ‘Orange Alert’ on Sunday. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy rains, thunderstorms and lightning at some places in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi, Solan and Sirmaur districts. Light to moderate rains were recorded in some parts of the state on Sunday.

Roads and electricity affected due to heavy rains

Murari Devi received the most 58.6 mm of rain from Saturday evening. After this, 22.3 mm in slapper, 18.5 mm in Hamirpur, 15.2 mm in Kangra, 13.8 mm in Dharamshala, 12.4 mm in Mandi, 12 mm in Jubbadhatti, 11 mm in Jogindranagar, 10.4 mm in Bilaspur, seven mm in Malraon, 5.8 mm in Kandaghat, six mm in Kandaghat. And Sunnibajji recorded five mm of rain.

According to the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC), a total of 142 roads remained closed in the state till Sunday evening, while 40 drinking water schemes and 26 power distribution transformers have been affected. Mandi district has the highest number of 91 roads closed.

Loss of assets worth crores of rupees

NH-707 is the worst condition, which is closed due to. The work of removing debris has also been disrupted due to continuous rains, due to which people are facing a lot of trouble. So far, a total of Rs 1,220 crore has been damaged due to continuous rains in the state.

The state administration has been kept on high alert and district officials have been instructed to be ready to deal with any emergency. The Government of Himachal Pradesh and the Disaster Management Authority have appealed to the citizens to follow the weather warnings and avoid unnecessary travel.
