The cult classic film ‘Sholay’ completed 50 years of its release last year. Released on 15 August 1975, this film became one of the highest grossing films of its time. The film was released on screen in different versions. Sholay memories came alive once again when Hema Malini and Ramesh Sippy met once again at the actress’s residence, where they unveiled the cover of a magazine featuring the filmmaker to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the film ‘Sholay’.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of ‘Sholay’, Hema Malini told a new story of Sholay. The actress feels that she wants to live the characters of Sholay in real life. While narrating the story of the recreation of the film, he said, it seems that Dharam ji is there, I am there, and we have got married, but in the style of Sholay. We are living happily in the same clothes and the same character. Villagers, many people live in Ram Nagar. There is Amit ji, Thakur and also Gabbar in the story. I am a cook and I go to everyone’s house and cook and feed everyone. Gabbar is a samosa seller, he has a shop and he is selling samosas.
Let us tell you that this story was narrated to Hema by a group of boys, which she found very endearing. Narrating the story of casting Hema Malini for Basanti in Sholay, Ramesh Sippy said, ‘We had already worked together in ‘Sita Aur Geeta’ and I knew Hema very well. Earlier I was shy to ask him for the role of Basanti because the role of Basanti was very small. There is hesitation in asking a big actress for a small role, but Hema said ‘yes’ to the film after reading the script. The special thing was that the dialogues of the film were very long, but Hema’s ability to remember was very high. She used to recite even long dialogues on the set. Hema Malini told that it was very difficult to dance barefoot in the sun on Sholay’s song ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’. He told that mother did not want me to dance on hot stones and was upset, but it was difficult and I did it with full hard work.
