More than 30,000 policemen and more than 70 companies of paramilitary forces will be deployed for security arrangements in view of the Republic Day celebrations in the capital Delhi. Officials gave this information on Friday. According to officials, for the first time, security force personnel will use smart glasses equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) which will be equipped with facial recognition system (FRS) and thermal imaging technology.
Made in India, these smart glasses will be linked to the police database of criminals, suspects and declared criminals in real time. This will help the security personnel deployed at the ground level to immediately identify persons in crowded areas. “These wearable devices (smart glasses) will be linked to the mobile phones used by police officers, giving them access to criminal databases,” Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Devesh Kumar Mahala said.
He explained that if a person has no criminal history, a green box appears on the smart glasses, while a red box would indicate a criminal record. Multi-layered barriers have been installed in the security arrangements for the parade to be organized on the duty path on the occasion of Republic Day and apart from this, six levels of checking and searching are included. Thousands of CCTVs including FRS have been installed in New Delhi.
Delhi Police ready to deal with any kind of situation
FRS equipped mobile vehicles will also be deployed at various locations. Mahala said, “Delhi Police is fully prepared to deal with any kind of situation.” He said that mock drills are being organized with several security agencies. Out of the total deployment, 10,000 security personnel will be deployed exclusively in New Delhi.
Police officers will be on high alert
DCPs of all the districts of Delhi have been given complete information about the security arrangements. He said that police officers will remain on high alert and will immediately report any suspicious activity. Another official said that rooftop security posts have been identified at about 4,000 places in New Delhi, North and Central districts. Around 500 high-resolution AI cameras are being installed along the parade route and surrounding areas. Security stickers will be given to all those participating in the Republic Day Parade.
Increased vigilance in crowded areas
Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) have completed the parade route survey and other checks. Vigilance has been increased in highly crowded areas like bus stops, railway stations and popular markets.
