Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced to build a high speed rail corridor from Delhi to Varanasi in the budget 2026-27. After which the distance from Delhi to big cities like Lucknow and Varanasi will be just two and three hours. This will further strengthen the connectivity of big cities of UP with the capital. Trains will run at a speed of 300 km per hour on this high speed route.
Preparations for the high speed corridor to be built between Delhi and Varanasi have been going on for many years. The survey for this route was also started two years ago, the roadmap for which has now been prepared and has also been announced by the Central Government. The people of UP are very excited after this announcement. Trains will run on this route at the speed of bullet trains.
Distance from Delhi to Lucknow will reduce
In fact, in this budget, the Central Government has announced to build seven new high speed corridors in the country. Of these, two corridors are coming in the UP part. Which will be between Delhi to Varanasi and Varanasi to Siliguri. This corridor will pass through the major cities of UP Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Kanpur, Lucknow, Ayodhya and Gorakhpur.
The journey from Delhi to Varanasi will be completed in 3 hours
According to the news of Amar Ujala, a high speed corridor is expected to be built from Delhi to Varanasi via Lucknow. Which will also connect Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Bareilly Kanpur. Trains will run at a speed of 300 km per hour on this corridor. The distance from Delhi to Lucknow is about 490 km. In this regard, there will be only a two-hour journey between the two cities. The distance of 790 km between Delhi and Varanasi can be covered in three hours.
Through this high speed route, the distance between Delhi and Lucknow will be reduced by one third and passengers can travel within a day. The fares of trains running on high speed routes will be based on airplane fares. According to sources, the fare between Delhi and Lucknow can be around five thousand rupees. It may also change as per further requirement.
