Himanta biswa sarma on waqf law protest: Protests of Muslims are being seen in different parts of the country regarding the Waqf law. In West Bengal, violence took place about this. At the same time, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday (April 12, 2025) that his kingdom took place very few protests and peace remained.
CM Sarma said that there is about 40 percent Muslim population in the state, yet there was a limited opposition to the recently passed Waqf law and there was a peaceful atmosphere in the state. On the social media platform X, Sarma wrote, “Despite having a population of about 40% of the Muslim population, there is a peaceful situation in Assam today, except sporadic protests at three places, each, each, which did not include more than 150 participants against the Waqf Amendment Act.”
CM Himant Biswa Sarma praised Assam Police
Giving the groundwork done by the law enforcement agency, he cracked, “My congratulations to the Assam Police for his widespread ground work, which helped maintain peace and order. People across Assam are united in the spirit of caste, creed, or community and religion and are eagerly preparing to welcome our beloved Bohag Bihu with happiness and harmony.” Although Muslim groups in many parts of the state protested against the Waqf Amendment Act, but very few people participated in it.
Waqf bill passed in budget session
The Waqf Bill was approved by the President on 5 April after being passed in Parliament during the budget session. The Rajya Sabha passed the bill with 128 votes, while in protest against 95 votes, while the Lok Sabha passed it after a long debate, in which 288 MPs supported it and 232 opposed it. After its law, protests were seen in different states of the country. At the same time, this protest took violent form in many areas of West Bengal.
