Hindus are not safe in Pakistan, missing deaf and mute minor girl accepted Islam, married father of 7 children

A 15-year-old Hindu girl, who was deaf and mute since birth, has come before the media in Pakistan’s Sindh province after being missing for more than a week. The girl had a certificate, according to which she had accepted Islam after marrying an older Muslim man.

The girl is a resident of Korwah town of Badin district of Sindh province of Pakistan. She had gone missing about nine days ago. Her parents had lodged a complaint of kidnapping in the local police station. On Saturday (October 18, 2025), she appeared before the media along with her alleged husband at Badin Press Club. During this time she had a certificate related to her conversion to Islam.

Police did not take action even after complaint

The girl’s father raised questions as to how a deaf and mute minor girl could agree to marry a drug smuggler and the father of seven daughters. Shiv Kachhi, head of Darwar Ittehad Pakistan, an organization that works for the rights and welfare of Hindus and minorities, said that the girl was kidnapped, but the police took no action despite the family’s complaint.

Kachhi said, ‘We have spoken to our lawyers so that we can take the case forward, because we do not believe that the girl would have taken this step of her own free will.’ Kachhi also said that he has written a letter to senior police officers demanding an independent investigation into the incident.

Violence against minorities is increasing in Pakistan

According to the report of Minority Rights, the Hindu population in Pakistan is about 1.2 percent of the total population, that is, about 19.6 lakh people live. The vast majority of these (about 96 percent) live in rural areas of Sindh province. Pakistan’s human rights organization has claimed that in the last one year, there has been an alarming increase in cases of violence against religious minorities, forced conversions and forced marriage of minor Hindu-Christian girls.
