Which District In Bihar Has The Highest AIDS Cases: The latest figures revealed regarding HIV/AIDS in Bihar have increased the concern. The number of HIV infected people in the state has now crossed one lakh.
While giving information in the Legislative Council, Health Minister Mangal Pandey said that till now 1,00,044 people have been found HIV positive. This revelation came when Dr. Rajvardhan Azad and other members sought a response from the government through a motion on this issue. Let us tell you why its cases are increasing in Bihar.
Which people have the most cases?
According to the information given in the House, 13 districts of Bihar have been kept in ‘high risk’ category, where the rate of infection is faster than normal. If we look at the figures, the capital Patna is at the top of this list. So far 8,270 AIDS patients have been confirmed here. After this, 5,760 cases have been registered in Gaya, 5,520 in Muzaffarpur, 5,026 in Sitamarhi, 4,716 in Begusarai and 3,078 in Bhagalpur. These figures clearly indicate that the pressure of infection is higher in urban and densely populated areas.
Why are cases increasing?
The question is arising as to why this situation is becoming so serious in some districts. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, lack of awareness, not getting tested on time, close proximity of people and unsafe physical relations can play a role in the spread of this infection. However, the government has claimed to strengthen the testing and counseling facilities. At present, 196 integrated counseling and testing centers are being operated in various government health institutions of the state, where free HIV testing and counseling is available.
Government assistance to victims
The government is also providing financial assistance to the infected people. Under ‘Bihar Shatabdi AIDS Victim Welfare Scheme’, each HIV infected person is given an assistance of Rs 1,500 per month. Also, an assistance of Rs 1,000 per month is provided to two dependent children below the age of 18 years.
In the financial year 2025-26, till December 2025, Rs 63.81 crore has been transferred directly to the accounts of the beneficiaries. The government says it is committed to prevention, treatment and raising awareness of infection. But the increasing figures are indicating that there is a need for more vigilance and comprehensive awareness campaign, especially in high risk districts including Patna, so that the pace of this infection can be controlled.
