How do you see the market of smart projector in India in the next 5 years? What will be your contribution to this growth?

In the market of smart projectors, only home projector segment is increasing. The segments of data projector and B2B projector are stable. However, the segment of the home projector is increasing at a high speed. The reason for this is that the way of consuming people has changed and along with this there have been major changes in projector technology. Earlier, there were many obstacles in the use of home projectors. One of these included large dark rooms, a white projector screen and complex installation. All these obstacles have been removed due to better technology. The total duration of projector running has also increased to about 30,000 hours. In such a situation, if you use the projector 5 hours per day, then your projector will run for 10 to 15 years.

Most people prefer to watch content at home instead of high-intensity individuals (HNI) multiplexes, especially. These people are spending the house on making a multiplex. Our company is pioneer in the project of projector in the country and our market share is about 50 percent. Apart from this, our share in the 4K Projector segment is 42-43 percent. It is about 51 percent in the portable projector segment. We estimate that the Home Entertainment Projector Market will continue to grow at the rate of 20-25 percent on the year-by-year basis. At this rate, the market can be almost double in the next three to four years.

India is a sensitive but ambitious market for many companies. How to balance Benq with affordability and premium innovation in this market?

I believe that India is not sensitive to a price, but a market related to value. Indian customers give more priority value than price. We also have a brand focused on a value and the value we offer in our price range is the best in the market. Because of this we hold a leading place in the market. Our products are not cheap but no other competitive brand can compete with the price on which we provide value. In terms of affordability, we offer a large range of products at various price points. This makes it easier to choose the value of customers.

What will be the next in terms of quality and performance of image with an increase in laser projection and 4K? How are you integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) in projectors?

The new feature in picture quality is 100 % DCI-P3, which is found in professional-grade cinema. We have included this feature in our new projects – W5850 and W4100i. With this, you can enjoy professional-grade cinema color quality at home. In commercial cinema, next big thing Rec. Will see 2020. This is a new standard upgrade for commercial theaters. We have launched laser TV projector, which Rec. Complets 95 percent of 2020.

For AI in projectors, our new projectors have started integrating AI. You will experience it in W5850 and W4100i. AI takes your picture performance to the next level. Through the AI, the projector automatically knows the conditions of lighting and in real time adjust the quality of the image as well as increase brightness and color according to environment. Along with this, you can enjoy AI cinema mode in our new projects.

How is Benq strengthening itself in the country’s projector market as compared to local and international competitions?

This segment has an international competition. We are proud that we hold a leading place in the market and are performing well. We believe in making them instead of walking on trends. For example, we have introduced AI cinema with our W5850 and W4100i projects and we have revealed new technology. For our customers in the projector segment, we try to be a pioneer in bringing advanced innovations.

Which region is the largest market for Benq in terms of projector in India and where do you see the most sales?

In the country, our projectors have the highest demand in South and West Regons. There is clearly strong demand in South and West Regons compared to North and East Regons. The main reason for this is that people have more enthusiasm about movies and content in these regions and they like to watch content on big screen. Mumbai is an important market for us as being a Bollywood hub. People are very enthusiastic about movies in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and we are getting good demand from these areas as well.

Can the projector replace TV in future and how is the duration of both of them different?

Yes, this can happen but it will be partial. It cannot be said that in the future, the projector will be able to replace TV. For example, a home projector can replace smart television from 75 inches. The reason for this is that there is a direct source of TV light, like you see a light blub. Conversely, a projector depends on the reflected light. Because of this, people who want to see content on a big screen are using projectors. The period of running of these two is almost the same.
