The Maharashtra government has allowed hotels, restaurants and orchestra bars to remain open till 5:00 am on the night of 31 December. Hotel and restaurant organizations had sought permission to remain open till late night, to which the Maharashtra government agreed. Meanwhile, Mumbai Police has made special preparations to ensure that there is no disturbance in the New Year celebrations. More than 17 thousand policemen will be deployed in Mumbai to maintain law and order. Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Girgaon Chowpatty, Bandra Bandstand, Juhu and Versova Beach are more crowded.
There will be strict monitoring by police
The celebrations are likely to continue till the morning of Thursday (January 1) in different hotels, restaurants and malls. In such a situation, the police have made arrangements for strict surveillance to avoid any untoward incident in the city.

Blockade will be done at main places and roads. Also, police patrolling will be increased. Traffic police will also be deployed along with Mumbai Police. 10 Additional Commissioners, 38 Deputy Commissioners, 61 ACPs, 2790 police officers and 14200 policemen will also keep vigil.
Police made this appeal to the people
Apart from this, SDRF, QRT, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, Home Guards and other forces will be deployed at sensitive places. Police will take very strict action against those involved in molestation, sale of illegal liquor and drugs. Police have appealed to the people to celebrate the New Year in a peaceful manner.

People have been advised to contact helpline numbers 100 and 112 in case of any help. Authorities have deployed a large force to keep an eye on traffic violations and drunk driving. Police will check the drivers with the help of breath analyzer.
