Common University Entrance Test (CUET) has now become the main medium of admission to Under Graduate (UG) courses in India. Earlier there used to be different entrance examinations in different universities, but now this examination is conducted with the aim of One India, One Exam. The responsibility of CUET lies with the National Testing Agency (NTA). Through this examination, students can choose the course according to their interest and can take admission in the prestigious universities of the country. Since CUET has now become the main medium of admission in most of the central, state and private universities, it is very important to make the right preparation and strategy to score good marks. How can one prepare for CUET UG exam?
1. Understand the pattern of CUET exam – CUET exam mainly consists of three parts. First language section (Language Test), in which you are asked questions based on reading, grammar and vocabulary. Second domain/subject-specific test, it is related to your chosen subject and third general test, it includes current affairs, general knowledge, logical reasoning etc. Each college may have its own exam pattern. Therefore, it is important to understand the pattern according to the college in which you want admission. 2. Make a list of colleges and courses – Before starting your studies, decide which university and course you want to take admission in. Collect information about previous year cut-off and counseling process. This will let you know how many marks are required for your target course and you can prepare accordingly.
3. Get information about slabs – CUET syllabus is mainly based on class 12th NCERT books. The syllabus of each university may be slightly different. Therefore, make a list of syllabus according to your target course and college, it is very important to understand it so that you know which subjects to pay more attention to.
4. Make a time table – Just studying is not enough, making a proper plan and schedule is the key to success. Study for 6-8 hours daily. Initially keep 1-2 hours for CUET and the rest for board exams. After the board exams are over, pay full attention to CUET preparation. Give more time to difficult topics and keep strong topics for regular revision.
5. Practice of mock test and old question paper – Mock tests and previous year papers help you understand the exam pattern and learn time management. Give mock tests at least 1-2 times a week. 6. Language Preparation – To score good marks in language section, practice reading comprehension daily. Read newspapers (The Hindu, Times of India, Dainik Bharat). Pay attention to Grammar & Vocabulary. Read articles, magazines and online content.
7. Preparation for Domain and General Test – Read NCERT books of your subject carefully. Give more time to difficult topics. Strengthen your preparation with mock tests and practice questions. For General Test, focus on current affairs, general knowledge and logical reasoning. Reading news daily and making notes is helpful.
8. Use online and coaching resources – If you have problem in self study then take help from any reputed coaching institute. Use video lectures and mock tests available on YouTube and online platforms.
