Agnivesh Agarwal, son of Vedanta Group Chief Anil Agarwal, has died in America. Agnivesh Aggarwal died due to cardiac arrest at the age of 49. According to reports, Agnivesh Aggarwal was admitted to the hospital after an accident while skiing in New York. His condition was said to be improving during treatment, but a sudden cardiac arrest took his life.

What is cardiac arrest?

Cardiac arrest is an electrical failure associated with the heart, which is the natural pacemaker in the heart that sends electrical signals. When these electrical signals suddenly deteriorate or stop completely, the heart stops beating. In such a situation, a person may suddenly fall unconscious and breathing may also stop. For this reason it is also called sudden cardiac arrest.

How is cardiac arrest different from heart attack?

The biggest difference between heart attack and cardiac arrest is that in heart attack, there is obstruction in the path of blood reaching the heart. That means the heart does not get adequate blood supply, but the heart keeps beating and the patient often remains conscious. Whereas in cardiac arrest, the electrical impulses that drive the heartbeat stop, due to which the heart stops completely. In this, the patient becomes unconscious within a few seconds and if immediate treatment is not received, the risk to life is very high.

Why does cardiac arrest occur?

According to doctors, cardiac arrest does not always occur due to pre-existing heart disease. This can also happen suddenly. Sometimes cardiac arrest can also occur due to abnormal heartbeat, which is called arrhythmia. At the same time, ventricular fibrillation, in which the lower part of the heart starts trembling instead of pumping blood, can also cause cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest can also occur due to disease related to the heart muscle. Apart from these, cardiac arrest can also occur due to blockage in the heart veins or long-running coronary artery disease.

Why does the risk of cardiac arrest increase during recovery?

After any major accident or surgery, the body is already weak. In such a situation, anemia, falling oxygen level, chest injury or excessive stress can affect the electrical activity of the heart. This is the reason why sometimes there is a risk of cardiac arrest even during treatment in the hospital. Symptoms of cardiac arrest may include sudden dizziness or fainting, difficulty in breathing, very fast or irregular heartbeat, chest pain and weakness.
