Air Taxi Technology: The world is fast moving towards the future and a new step in this direction is air taxi. Just as you book cabs on the roads, you go from one place to another, similarly in the coming time, air taxis flying from the sky will also deliver you to the floor in a few minutes. But the question is, how do these air taxis fly in the air and whether the technology used in them is different from aeroplane?
The secret of air taxi flight
Air taxi is often called Evtol (Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing). This means that these vehicles can rise upright without a runway and come down straight. It contains special types of electric motors and propellers who give it the ability to fly vertical like a helicopter.
While Aroplane requires long runways and fast speed to fly, the air taxi can also fly from a small helipad or open area. This is the reason that in future it is being considered a boon for big cities struggling with traffic jams.
Difference in technology
Aeroplane usually operates from a jet engine or turboprop engine that consumes a large amount of fuel (aviation turbine fuel). At the same time, air taxis are mostly based on batteries and electric motors. This means that they are more environmental-interest and make the noise very low. In addition, the flight of aeroplane depends on the traditional principles of physics such as lift and thrust. Air taxi also follows these principles, but it consists of small propellers and rotors which keep it stable and controlled by rotating in different directions. You can call it a large and advanced form of drone.
Security and navigation
The air taxi contains high-tech sensors, cameras and autopylot systems which capture real-time data of each direction. These vehicles go on their own way with the help of GPS and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and can immediately change the direction to avoid a collision in the air. While the aeroplane requires one or two pilots, the future of the air taxi is completely running without an autonomous or a pilot. However, in the initial stages, they will be operated by trained pilots.
Future journey
The biggest advantage of air taxi is time saving. While it takes hours from the road to reach from one corner of a city to another, the air taxi will take you there in a few minutes. Also, it will reduce the environment safe by reducing carbon emissions.
NASA is also doing research
In future, air taxi is being seen as a major change to make air travel even easier, faster and accessible. NASA scientists are constantly working in this direction. They are currently doing research on a small electric aircraft which is called Evtol in technical language and which is exactly like air taxi. The purpose of this research is to provide necessary technical information to companies that are preparing aircraft so that they can make their design more secure and better.
As the air taxis fly in the sky in future, it will be very important for engineers to know how the aircraft behaves during their flight and under which circumstances its balance and control system works. This is why NASA is focusing on this project. Scientists believe that an advanced flight control system will help the air taxi fly stable and safe.
