How does the new Aadhaar app work?
This next generation app has been designed on privacy first and consent based model. In this you will have control over your information. To log in, Aadhaar number and OTP received on registered mobile will be used. The app supports face authentication, fingerprint and secure PIN. Once logged in, the user can view his profile without entering details again and again.
Information like name, photo and address remains safely stored on the device. Digitally signed details are shared for identity verification. Aadhaar number is not stored. This entire system is based on the principle of data minimization. That means, only as much information as is required will be shared.
What will be its benefits?
You can use the new app easily. There are many benefits in this. Which includes features like QR code based offline verification for hotel check-in, age verification for cinema tickets and hospital visitor check. Gig workers and service partners can also be identified through this.
QR based contact card has been provided to share contact details. There is also a facility to manage five Aadhaar profiles in a single mobile. Due to which the concept of One Family One App is strengthened. This app works on both Android and iOS platforms.
There is special attention on safety
The most important feature of the app is the biometric lock and unlock feature. If any user suspects data misuse. So he can instantly lock his fingerprint and iris data. Without permission no one will be able to do biometric authentication. Users can also view their authentication history.
Which shows when and where Aadhaar was used. Only that information is shared through the selective credential sharing feature. Whatever is needed. According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, this system has been designed under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act.
