Gopinath P. Hinduja, India’s famous industrialist and chairman of Hinduja Group, passed away recently in London at the age of 85. The demise of Gopinath Hinduja, who was unwell for a long time, is not just the loss of the head of a business family but also the loss of a person who gave global recognition to Indian industry. But very few people know that the education of Gopinath Hinduja, the owner of property worth billions, started from an ordinary college in Mumbai.
Gopinath Hinduja was born on 29 January 1940 in India. His father Parmanand Hinduja was a well-known businessman, who taught the family to follow the values of honesty and hard work. Gopinath Hinduja completed his early education in Mumbai and then obtained his graduation degree from the famous Jai Hind College. In the year 1959, he completed his graduation from Jai Hind College, Mumbai. Since his college days, he became interested in the intricacies of business and international trade.
While studying at Jai Hind College, he had understood that business could not only be a means of earning money but also a medium for the development of society. Those close to him say that during his college days, he used to dream of taking the family business to the international level. This dream later became the foundation of Hinduja Group’s global success.

Received honorary doctorate
After graduating from college, he did not pursue further studies formally, but on the basis of experience and learning, he made his mark across the world. In view of his achievements and contribution to the society, he was later awarded two Honorary Doctorates. One in Law from University of Westminster, London and the other in Economics from Richmond College, London. This honor symbolizes that real education is not only in books, but in life experiences and honesty towards work.
