Passing the Civil Services Examination is a huge achievement for any candidate. But after this an important process starts which is called cadre allocation. Through this, it is decided in which state or joint cadre the selected officer will have to serve and in which state the major part of his career will be spent.

Generally, three main things are kept in mind while deciding the cadre. In which the first is the UPSC rank of the candidate, second is the choice of states given by the candidate and third is the vacancy available in different states. On the basis of all these, the Central Government appoints the officer in any state or joint cadre.
