How many educated people will be able to become tourist guides, what will be the job options for this?

Budget 2026 has brought a new hope for the educated youth of the country. While presenting her ninth budget in the Lok Sabha, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has made a big announcement regarding employment in the tourism industry. The direct benefit of this announcement will be given to those youth who want to travel, connect with nature and people and work. The government has made it clear that 10 thousand new tourist guides will be prepared in the coming time.

Under this scheme of the government, 10,000 educated youth across the country will be trained as tourist guides. This training will be given especially at the famous tourist places of India. This clearly means that direct employment is going to be created for thousands of youth in the tourism sector. The objective of this scheme is not only to increase the number of guides, but also to prepare such trained and knowledgeable guides who can provide a better experience to the tourists coming from within the country and abroad.

12 week special training course

The Finance Minister said that the government will start a 12-week standard and high quality training course in collaboration with big institutes like IIM. This course will be in hybrid mode, that is, some studies will be conducted online and some offline. Through this course, guides will be upskilled at 20 major tourist places of the country. In this, important things like history, culture, local language, understanding of environment, dealing with tourists and safety will be taught.

How will job options open?

After becoming a tourist guide, many types of job options will open for the youth. They can work with government and private tour companies. Apart from this, there will also be work opportunities in hotels, travel agencies, adventure tour operators and online travel platforms.

The most important thing is that with increasing emphasis on eco tourism and nature based travel, the demand for eco tourist guides will increase rapidly. This will be a golden opportunity for guides working in mountains, forests, lakes and trekking routes.

Mountain trails will increase employment

It has also been announced in the budget that new mountain trails will be built in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Apart from this, sustainable trails will also be developed in areas like Araku Valley in the Eastern Ghats and Pudigai Malai in the Western Ghats. With the construction of these trails, the local youth living there will get work as tourist guides, trek leaders and nature guides. This will increase employment in villages and hilly areas.

Opportunities in wildlife tourism also

The government has also announced to promote wildlife tourism. Under this, turtle trails, nesting sites and bird-watching trails will be built around Pulicat Lake in Odisha, Karnataka and Kerala. To work at these places, guides will be required who have good knowledge of nature, birds and wildlife. This will open new employment opportunities for environmentally conscious youth.
