LPG Cylinder Storage Rules: These days, many questions are running in the minds of people regarding LPG gas. At some places, there were reports that people were booking more cylinders than required and keeping extra stock at home. The government says that the supply of gas in the country is normal and lakhs of cylinders are being delivered to homes every day. Usually, delivery is available within two to three days of booking.
Despite this, complaints of black marketing and hoarding of gas have come to light at many places. 55 cylinders have been found at a leader’s house in UP. Police and administration are also taking action in such cases. For this reason, this question is arising in the minds of many people as to how many gas cylinders are kept in the house as per the rules and what action can be taken if someone stores more cylinders than required.
How many LPG cylinders can be kept in the house?
For people taking domestic gas connections, there are certain rules regarding keeping the cylinder. These rules have been made to maintain safety and proper supply.
Usually the arrangement is like this:
- Two cylinders of 14.2 kg each can be kept on a normal domestic connection.
- Of these, one cylinder remains in use and the other is kept as backup.
- If needed, another cylinder can be installed immediately.
- This system is applicable in the connections of most gas companies.
This makes the use of gas easier in homes and there is no need for extra stock.

The matter is considered serious in such situations:
- Keeping many filled cylinders stored in the house or warehouse.
- Mistaking advantage of booking rules.
- Using domestic cylinder for commercial purposes.
- Trying to sell the cylinder at a higher price.
On receiving information about such cases, officials investigate and further action is decided.
What action can be taken against hoarding?
In India, LPG gas has been kept in the category of essential commodities. Therefore, the law considers its black marketing or hoarding as a serious matter.
Strict steps can be taken under the rules:
- Extra cylinders may be confiscated.
- A case can be registered against the person responsible.
- Under the law, the punishment can range from 3 months to 7 years in jail.
- Along with this, financial penalty can also be imposed.
