With the aim of providing better health facilities to poor and needy families, the Central Government has started Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. This scheme is counted among the world’s largest government health insurance schemes. Under this, eligible families get cashless treatment up to Rs 5 lakh annually. Due to which the financial burden of treatment of serious diseases is reduced to a great extent. In such a situation, let us now tell you how many times in a year you can get treatment through Ayushman card and what are its rules.
How many times can treatment be done in a year?
There is no fixed limit on the number of treatments done through Ayushman card. That means, if needed, the beneficiary can get admitted to the hospital several times a year and get treatment. However, one condition is that the total treatment expenditure of the entire family should not exceed Rs 5 lakh in a year. This amount of Rs 5 lakh is on family floater basis. That means, one or all the members of the family together can get treatment up to this limit. If the entire amount of Rs 5 lakh is spent in any 5 years, then free treatment will not be available in that year. Apart from this, the limit automatically becomes Rs 5 lakh again at the beginning of the next policy year.
Which expenses get benefit?
Under the scheme, expenses for a few days before and after hospitalization are also covered. This includes tests, medicines, operation, ICU implant, food and post hospital follow up for 15 days. Pre-existing diseases are also covered from day one. Hundreds of packages and thousands of medical procedures are included under this scheme, which can be treated in government and private hospitals as per the list.
Where will you get treatment through the card?
Treatment with Ayushman card is possible only in those hospitals which are registered under the scheme. This includes many private hospitals along with government hospitals across the country. The beneficiaries can visit the official website and see the list of registered hospitals according to their state and district. On reaching the hospital, the patient is admitted after identity verification and the entire treatment is done in a cashless manner.
