If we talk about any pay commission, the most important thing in it is “fitment factor”. This is the number by which the new salary is determined by multiplying the existing basic salary. If the fitment factor is high then the increase in salary is also high. In the 7th Pay Commission, the fitment factor was fixed at 2.57. At that time the minimum basic salary was increased from Rs 7,000 to Rs 18,000.
What to expect in 8th Pay Commission?
According to the report, the fitment factor in the 8th Pay Commission can go up to 2.86. If this happens, the minimum basic salary may increase from Rs 18,000 to around Rs 51,480.

- Level 1 includes employees like peons, attendants and multi-tasking staff.
- Level 2 includes lower division clerks.

- Level 6 includes inspectors and junior engineers.

Government asked for suggestions
The Central Government has launched the official website of the 8th Pay Commission and has now invited suggestions from employees, pensioners, ministries, departments, union territories, judicial officers, employee organizations, researchers and general public. The Commission has released a question paper consisting of 18 questions on the MyGov portal, through which people can give their opinion. The last date for sending suggestions has been fixed as March 16. The government has clearly said that only answers sent through MyGov website will be valid, suggestions sent by email or on paper will not be accepted.
