The 31st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is going to be held on 22 December. This time the biggest discussion is about the contracts of two senior players of Team India, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. In the last one year, both the legends have retired from Test and T20 formats, and are currently playing only ODI cricket. In such a situation, there can be a big impact on his central contract grade.
Kohli-Rohit may be out of A+ category?
In the 2024–25 contract cycle (from 1 October 2024 to 30 September 2025), Kohli and Rohit were placed in the A+ category. Jasprit Bumrah Ravindra Jadeja is also included in this category. However, according to reports, BCCI will now reconsider the grading of both the players. If they are out of A+ grade, there could be a cut of Rs 2 crore in the annual salary of both the players.
A+ Grade: 7 crore rupees
A Grade: Rs 5 crore
Because now both the players are available only in ODI format, it is considered difficult for them to remain in A+ category.
Will Shubman Gill enter A+?
Team India’s current Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill can get the biggest benefit in this meeting. Gill is currently in the A category, but in the last one year he got the command of the team, and he has consistently played an important role in all formats. In such a situation, there is every possibility of him getting promotion in A+ grade. Ravindra Jadeja and Bumrah will also remain in this category.
Women’s cricket and domestic cricket also on the agenda
In the AGM, not only the contracts of male players but also the salary and contract structure of female domestic cricketers will be discussed. Along with this, a proposal can also be made to increase the fees of umpires and match referees.
First meeting after major changes in BCCI
This AGM is the first meeting after the recent administrative changes of BCCI. Because in September:
- Mithun Manhas becomes the new president
- Raghuram Bhatt became treasurer
- Devjit becomes secretary of SAICA
- Prabhtej Singh Bhatia appointed joint secretary
Not only this, Saurashtra Cricket Association President Jaydev Shah has also become the new councillor.
