Very few people get overnight success in Indian television and one of those very few people is Pulkit Samrat. Yes, a normal TV audition, which he accepted with some hesitation, not only proved to be the biggest turning point in his life but also made him a favorite face of every household.
It is noteworthy that Pulkit Samrat, who considered himself a versatile actor, did not want to start his career with TV, because he felt that daily soaps were mostly limited to melodramas. But perhaps fate had something else in mind and that is what took him to the pinnacle of popularity.
Pulkit did not want to do TV serials
In this regard, Pulkit Samrat says, “I remember I had clearly said that I did not want to do TV serial type work, rather I wanted to do something different and versatile. But then the casting team explained to me that this character is different from other TV roles. There was an opportunity to do something new with depth and the most important thing was that I was going to get a chance to meet Ekta Kapoor. This is what convinced me to come to Mumbai and I moved from Delhi to Mumbai overnight.”
It is noteworthy that Ekta Kapoor had already seen Pulkit’s pictures and after meeting him, she was confirmed that Virani would be the target of her serial ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’. In such a situation, his grooming started as soon as he came to Mumbai. He was given a new haircut and a screen test was done and after watching the footage, Ekta Kapoor signed his name and said, “Okay, done, ready.”
However, even amidst this huge success, Pulkit was constantly missing his family, whom he had left Delhi for and moved to Mumbai without informing. Yearning to meet them and to give the news of his success, he made the excuse of back pain and asked for permission to return to Delhi for a night and went to meet his parents. He became emotional after seeing his parents at Delhi airport. Recalling that incident, Pulkit says, “I hugged him with tears in my eyes, words were of little use, only emotions were there. However, after a few hours, I returned to Mumbai again but this time with a new confidence and a changed life.”
Pulkit’s entry in ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ was very special. He was launched with the generation leap of the show and he went straight into the hearts of the audience with the song ‘Woh Krishna Hai’. It is also worth noting that this was one of the first full-length launch songs made for a TV character. And in this way, along with Mouni Roy, he became the face of the new generation. In this regard, Pulkit says, “Overnight I became a well-known name and after that I never looked back.”
After the popularity of ‘Fukrey’ and playing different characters in ‘Taish’, ‘Sanam Re’ and ‘Rahu Ketu’, currently he is not only going to step on the OTT platform with ‘Glory’, but is also continuously taking his career forward by playing the role of a boxer for the first time. Currently, this story of Pulkit Samrat tells that sometimes a right opportunity changes the whole life, but to take that opportunity forward, hard work, patience and right decisions are most important.
