RSP and Nepal Election Result: Balendra Shah, whom everyone calls Balen, is very popular among the youth of Nepal. He became a rapper-turned-engineer, then was elected Mayor of Kathmandu as an independent candidate in 2022 and is now contesting big elections by joining Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP). But people often ask what is his net worth? And what is his personal property?
What is Balen Shah’s net worth?
According to media reports like The Week and Business Today, Balen Shah’s total net worth is around 5 to 6 crore Nepali rupees (about 30-35 lakh Indian rupees). This figure is based on the reports of 2025-2026 and no major change is visible in it. His monthly earnings are said to be around 3 lakh Nepali rupees.
This earning comes from three main sources:
- Mayor’s salary: While holding the post, he used to get 46,000 Nepali rupees per month. Now he has resigned.
- Engineering Business: He is the Managing Director of Balen Consulting and Construction Private Limited. From this he earns the most i.e. more than Rs 2 lakh per month.
- Music and Rap: Earlier he was active in the underground hip-hop scene and also earns income from singing.
Some reports put his net worth as high as USD 3 million (about Rs 25 crore), but most reliable sources agree on NPR 5-6 crore only. Some income also comes from social media accounts, but it is not the main one.
What are Balen Shah’s property and assets?
Not many details about Balen Shah’s personal property are public. He lives in a modest house in Garigaon, Tinkune area of Kathmandu with his wife Sabina Kafle (public health professional) and daughter. There is no news of any big luxury property, many houses or land.
While being mayor, his focus was not on increasing personal wealth, but he recovered more than 208 ropani of public land on behalf of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, which was worth about 23 billion Nepali rupees. This land is being converted into park, sports ground and green space. Their target was to recover 1,859 ropani land (worth NPR 200 billion). That means his image is more of ‘simplicity’ and ‘public service’ and not of the rich.
Balen Shah comes from middle class category.
However, in recent reports, a video went viral where he was seen driving a Land Rover Defender worth 4 crore Nepalese rupees, but it was not confirmed whether it is his personal asset or not. Balen Shah’s net worth is middle class. This is rare among the political leaders of Nepal. He is a symbol of ‘change’ for the youth, not of wealth. If RSP government is formed then the focus will be more on their policies and not on personal wealth.
